Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play 'Purpose' in Atlanta

The play Purpose, which won the 2025 Tony Award for Best Play and the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, arrives in Atlanta for a single performance. Written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, it is a family drama centered on the Jasper family, a prominent African-American political dynasty reuniting under one roof, where ideological clashes and long-buried secrets emerge.

Critics hailed the work as an 'explosive' examination of legacy and identity. The production earned five Tony Award nominations for its cast. It was commissioned by the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, premiered in Chicago in 2023, and transferred to Broadway's Hayes Theater for the 2024–2025 season.

Directed by Phylicia Rashad, the Atlanta staging presents this critically praised work to a new audience.
