Tray Wellington at Club Cafe

Tray Wellington is redefining bluegrass banjo with a style that draws from jazz, hip-hop, and blues. Hailing from North Carolina, the young banjoist earned an IBMA Momentum Award and the Steve Martin Banjo Prize. His 2022 debut album, Black Banjo, showcases a modern jazz-infused take on traditional bluegrass, while his 2024 project Detour to the Moon includes a bluegrass cover of Kid Cudi's 'Pursuit of Happiness.'

At Club Cafe in Pittsburgh, Wellington performs in an intimate setting. His set blends original compositions with reimagined covers, reflecting his background with the band Cane Mill Road and his efforts to highlight the black roots of banjo music.
