Arcángel, born Austin Agustín Santos on December 23, 1985, in New York City to Dominican parents, is a rapper and singer widely regarded as one of the pioneering figures of Latin trap. Raised largely in Puerto Rico from infancy, he moved between the island and the mainland United States before establishing himself in San Juan's reggaeton scene.
He began his recording career as one half of the duo Arcángel & De La Ghetto from 2004 to 2007 before launching a solo career in 2008. In 2006 he founded his own label, Flow Factory, to release and promote his music.
His catalog spans reggaeton, Latin trap, hip-hop, and R&B, including the albums El Fenómeno (2008), Sentimiento, Elegancia & Maldad (2013), which debuted at number one on the US Top Latin Albums chart, Ares (2018), and Sr. Santos (2022). Signature songs include "Chica Virtual," "Pa' Que la Pases Bien," "Sigues Con Él," and "La Jumpa."
"Sigues Con Él" gave Arcángel his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, and he has received multiple ASCAP and BMI Latin Awards over the course of his career.
