The parade and the citywide programme

The National Parade is the centrepiece: a procession of marching bands, costumed performers and community groups through Dublin city centre on 17 March, watched by huge crowds along the route free of charge. Around it, the festival runs a genuinely broad citywide programme — the 2026 edition lists over 150 artists across street theatre, dance (including a wheelchair-led piece and ballet for over-55s), comedy, craft workshops, family-friendly hubs and neurodivergent-friendly spaces, plus the Céilí Mór, a large public céilí (Irish social dance) on the afternoon of the 17th.

Grandstands and how to watch

General viewing along the parade route is free, but paid grandstand seating is available for those who want a guaranteed view without the standing crowds — book directly through the official festival site, which lists current pricing and remaining availability closer to the date. The rest of the citywide programme (craft workshops, family hubs, most performances) has its own separate, published schedule.

Planning your visit

Dublin Airport connects to the city centre by frequent bus services (Airlink, Aircoach) in about 30–45 minutes; there is no direct rail link. Book central accommodation well ahead — St Patrick's week is one of Dublin's busiest of the year, and hotel rates rise accordingly.

March in Dublin is cool and often wet — dress for the weather rather than the occasion, and expect the city centre to be extremely busy on parade day itself.

When is St. Patrick's Festival 2026 in Dublin?
The festival programme runs Saturday 14 to Tuesday 17 March 2026, confirmed directly by the official festival site (stpatricksfestival.ie).
When is the St. Patrick's Day Parade in 2026?
Tuesday 17 March 2026 — St Patrick's Day itself, which is also a public holiday in Ireland. The Céilí Mór public dance event runs the same afternoon.
Is St. Patrick's Festival free to attend?
Yes — general viewing of the parade and most of the citywide programme is free. Paid grandstand seating along the parade route is available for those who want a guaranteed, seated view; book through the official site.
What is the 2026 St. Patrick's Festival theme?
"Roots" — the 2026 programme is built around the people, places and stories that make up the living roots of Irish culture, across more than 150 artists and performers.
