Fado na Rua: Lisbon's Open-Air Fado Experience

During the summer months, the historic neighborhoods of Alfama, Castelo, and Mouraria come alive with the soulful sounds of traditional Fado. Fado na Rua – Visitas Cantadas is a cultural initiative that brings this UNESCO-recognized music genre out of the intimate houses and into the streets, offering a unique blend of guided walking tours and live performances.

Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from late July through early September, visitors can wander through Lisbon's most iconic quarters while listening to authentic Fado sung by local performers. The experience combines the city's rich history with its most emblematic musical tradition, creating an atmospheric journey through cobblestone alleys and scenic viewpoints.

Organized by the Junta de Freguesia de Santa Maria Maior, this free-spirited event invites both locals and tourists to discover the roots of Fado in the very neighborhoods where it was born. It's a perfect opportunity to experience Lisbon's cultural heritage in an informal, open-air setting.
