Jorge Martins: Timescape Exhibition in Lisbon

The Galeria do Torreão Nascente da Cordoaria Nacional in Lisbon hosts "Timescape," a solo exhibition by Portuguese artist Jorge Martins. Featuring around 50 works spanning painting and drawing, the show centers on an investigation into abstraction that runs through several decades of his career. Alongside recent pieces, archival materials—sketchbooks, visual studies, aphorisms, and quotations—reveal the procedural and reflective dimension of his practice.

The exhibition proposes a reflection on how time becomes visible through creative gesture. Martins' work connects art history with fields like quantum cosmology, evoking the idea of a timescape as the structure of the birth of time and space. Rather than representing the world, the works open a territory of contemplation and thought around the mystery of existence. Curated by Óscar Faria, the show runs from May 27 to August 30, 2026.
