Rosa Barba: Drawing Vocabularies at CAM

For her first major solo exhibition in Portugal, Italian artist and filmmaker Rosa Barba presents a site-specific, temporal narrative at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's Centro de Arte Moderna. Her work often juxtaposes natural landscapes with human-induced environmental change, archival histories, and visions of the future, blending astronomy with cinema and employing non-actors as witnesses.

At the CAM, these themes materialize through the physical presence of celluloid film and cinematic apparatuses, used not only to create moving images but also sculptural elements that stand on their own. The exhibition functions as a three-dimensional film and a musical score, where cinema allows time and space to vibrate, collapse, overlap, and expand.

A guided visit titled "Os vocabulários de Rosa Barba" with Benjamin Weil and the artist offers deeper insight into her conceptual vocabulary. The show runs from May to September 2026, inviting visitors to explore the impermanence of materials, images, and thought itself.
