At The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, the in-the-round format puts four songwriters at the heart of a tiny room. Liz Hengber, Victoria Banks, Rei Kimura, and Zander Jett will trade songs and the stories behind them, with just 18 tables, a few bar seats, and church pews between them and the audience.
Hengber's own story is woven into the room—she waited tables at the Bluebird before writing seven number-one singles, including Reba McEntire's 'For My Broken Heart.' Banks, a Nashville-based Canadian, has written for McEntire, Sara Evans, and Jessica Simpson, and has released four self-produced albums. Kimura brings an indie-rock perspective, rounding out the evening with a different texture.
The evening is an intimate listening-room experience: tickets come with a per-seat food-and-drink minimum, and small parties may be seated at shared larger tables. Arrive early enough for the first-come pew seats, and you'll be close enough to see the songs take shape.
