The Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) returns for its 2026 edition, bringing a curated selection of international cinema to the heart of Zürich. Founded in 2005, the festival has grown into a major cultural event, attracting over 140,000 visitors in its 20th anniversary year. The program focuses on emerging filmmakers, with competition categories for first, second, and third directorial works in feature films, documentaries, and a regional focus on Switzerland, Germany, and Austria.
Screenings take place along the "Film Mile" on the Limmat river, at venues including the Zürich Opera House and a central festival tent. Beyond the film program, the festival offers side events, workshops, talks, and industry gatherings like the Zurich Coproduction Forum. Gala premieres and special screenings feature established directors and casts, while the "Hashtag" section highlights films on current global topics.
The ZFF awards the Golden Eye in three competition categories. With a mix of debut films, international hits, and exclusive premieres, the festival provides a platform for new cinematic voices and draws film enthusiasts to Zürich in autumn.
