This commemorative concert recreates the historic funeral of Frédéric Chopin at the Église de la Madeleine, exactly as it took place on 30 October 1849. The Orchestre Hélios, Chœur Hélios Ephémère, and conductor Mathieu Cabanes perform the very programme that marked Chopin's final farewell: Mozart's Requiem, Chopin's Nocturnes and Waltzes, and the Funeral March arranged by Napoléon Reber.
Attendees will experience the solemn atmosphere that once filled the church draped in black, with three thousand mourners present. The concert evokes the original ceremony, where organist Louis Lefébure-Wély played Chopin's Préludes and the Requiem was performed by the orchestra and choirs of the Société de concerts du Conservatoire, featuring soloists Pauline Viardot and Luigi Lablache. It is a unique opportunity to step back in time and witness a pivotal moment in musical history.
