Poison Girl Friend in Portland

POiSON GiRL FRiEND is the solo project of Japanese artist Noriko Sekiguchi, a singer, songwriter, composer, producer and DJ. She got her start in Tokyo's club scene and soon built a distinctive catalogue that moves between ambient house, classical strings and electro, often associated with the Shibuya-kei movement. Her work with collaborators such as Momus and Simon Fisher Turner is a big part of that story.

At this Portland show at the Star Theater, that musical range is the draw: from the close, harmonic textures of early recordings to the later electro-leaning albums, the set offers a survey of a singular Japanese music career.
