The Birdland Big Band is a 16-piece jazz orchestra that lights up Birdland Jazz Club every Friday night. Led by saxophonist David DeJesus, the band delivers a thrilling mix of jazz, funk, Brazilian, Latin, and world music, often featuring weekly guest artists from television and touring bands. The atmosphere is electric, with sold-out crowds packing the iconic 44th Street venue.
The band's repertoire spans contemporary compositions, original arrangements, and historical works. Founded in 2006 by drummer Tommy Igoe, the ensemble has evolved under various leaders including Rob Middleton and Glenn Drewes. The Birdland Big Band has released albums such as Eleven (2012).
