Acerca de Spoon Benders
Black moved to Portland in 2015 to study neuropsychology and met drummer AJ Herald through a shared workplace, and the two began writing together in his garage. Guitarist Leo Pastor and bassist Velvet joined soon after, and all four members eventually became housemates. The band's sound blends garage rock, punk, psych rock and doom metal, drawing comparisons to Thee Oh Sees, Black Sabbath and Goggs.
The band's debut album, Dura Mater, was recorded on vintage tape equipment in a basement venue called The Convent. Its follow-up, How Things Repeat, is a more collaboratively written record exploring themes of recurrence and monotony, and was released alongside a sold-out show at Portland's Doug Fir Lounge.
Spoon Benders have performed at festivals including Oakland's Mosswood Meltdown and Boise's Treefort, touring widely across the United States while remaining rooted in Portland's music scene.
