With an extensive discography and a long-standing presence in the worlds of rebetiko , laïko and Greek folk music, Giorgos Tzortzis joins the Cypriot ensemble Archi Dia tou Rebetikou comprising Theodoros Polycarpou, Christos Psathas, Giorgos Paottos and Nikolas Tryphonos, for a concert celebrating the enduring legacy of rebetiko and laïko songs. The programme approaches rebetiko as a rich artistic tradition in which poetry, memory and lived experience converge. Centred on the expressive power of the human voice and the spoken word, it explores the poetic world and distinctive ethos of the genre, highlighting the narrative depth of its lyrics and the expressive qualities of performance—elements that have shaped its identity and sustained its lasting appeal. Unfolding as a musical journey through the evolution of rebetiko and laïko songs, the performance traces the continuity and transformation of this tradition. Through an intimate acoustic setting, the musicians reveal the genre’s many facets, from its earliest rebetiko roots to its later expressions in popular Greek music.
