The mountain-village festivals

August is when the Troodos villages hold their own festivals, and they are the part of the Cyprus summer that visitors most often miss. They are small, mostly free, run late, and are where you hear Greek live music in front of a local crowd rather than a resort one.

They are also genuinely remote. There is no evening bus back down the mountain, so plan the return leg before you go — most people drive or share a taxi from Limassol, which is about 45 minutes to the higher villages.
