Why Cyprus?
Cyprus is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Polish travellers — a direct flight from Warsaw, Krakow, Katowice or Wrocław takes around 3.5 hours, and low-cost carriers regularly run both charter and scheduled routes during the season. The island is part of the EU and uses the euro, so there's no currency hassle and only an ID card is needed for entry.
The beach season runs from roughly May through October, but the best balance of warm weather and reasonable prices falls in May, June, September and October — it's already (or still) warm, without the peak heat of July and August, when temperatures regularly climb past 35°C. Those two months are also the busiest, so accommodation and car hire prices tend to rise noticeably.
Cyprus offers more than beaches — in a few days you can combine swimming in the Mediterranean with exploring the Troodos mountain villages, ancient archaeological sites and small harbour towns. Right-hand traffic, well-marked roads and widely spoken English make self-drive exploration easy even without any Greek.
Where to stay
- Limassol — Limassol works well as a base for travellers who want to mix beach time with city life — a long seafront promenade, a marina full of restaurants, and hotels to suit every budget.
- Paphos — Paphos suits travellers after a quieter stay near ancient ruins and postcard sunsets on the island's west coast.
- Ayia Napa — Ayia Napa is the natural pick for younger travellers and nightlife fans, and it's home to Nissi Beach, one of the island's most photogenic stretches of sand.
- Larnaca — Larnaca is a solid pick for shorter trips thanks to its close airport and the palm-lined Finikoudes promenade, and it's usually cheaper than the resorts further south.
- Protaras — Protaras (Paralimni) is the pick for families with children — calm, shallow bays like Fig Tree Bay and a quieter pace than neighbouring Ayia Napa.
A meal at an affordable taverna typically runs around 13 euro per person, a taxi from the airport to a resort town costs several dozen euro, and a small rental car for a week can be found from roughly 150-200 euro in season.
