Aleksi Pakkanen brings his solo exhibition "Tales from the blind spot" to Lisbon's Passevite gallery, running from mid-July through late August 2026. The Finnish artist, born in 1987 and based in Tampere, is known for public-space interventions across Northern Europe, drawing heavily on graffiti and urban culture. His work shifts between photography, painting, and performative actions he describes as "childish and forbidden."
Pakkanen's recent pieces employ mixed media on various supports, aiming to channel what he calls his "exhausted mind" onto paper, creating a kind of threatening anti-hero. This stance rebels against the pressure to conform to adult life and art-world norms. His process is pure action: he works directly on the surface, evaluating the result only when he feels the piece is complete, free from preconceived concepts.
The exhibition reflects a symbiotic relationship between his domestic space—where being a father and his current primary workplace intersect—and the street/city as objects of analysis and intervention. Pakkanen's art is a "drift" where gestures become city streets and each work an architecture of symbols drawn from urban details, offering a semiotic delight.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 16:00 to 20:00.
