Santo António — Lisbon's biggest night of the year

The night of 12-13 June is the peak of Lisbon's Santos Populares: twenty Marchas Populares — costumed parades, one per historic neighbourhood, roughly 80-100 performers each — compete down Avenida da Liberdade from 9pm, alongside collective weddings and all-night arraiais in Alfama, Mouraria and Graça with grilled sardines, bifanas and kale soup.
