John Cameron Mitchell brings the 25th anniversary tour of his film *Hedwig and the Angry Inch* to San Diego. The film, which Mitchell wrote, directed, and starred in, began as an off-Broadway rock musical he created with composer Stephen Trask. It follows a genderqueer East German rock musician chasing an ex-lover who plagiarized her songs.
Mitchell won the Best Director prize at the 2001 Sundance Film Festival for the film adaptation, and his performance earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. The production later transferred to Broadway in 2014, winning four Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical.
