À propos de Billy Bragg

His 1983 debut, "Life's a Riot with Spy vs Spy," established a stripped-down style built on electric guitar and voice, and "Talking with the Taxman About Poetry" (1986) became his first UK top-ten album. His two collaborative albums with the American band Wilco and singer Natalie Merchant, "Mermaid Avenue" (1998) and "Mermaid Avenue Vol. II" (2000), setting unpublished Woody Guthrie lyrics to new music, earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

Bragg's work is classified across folk punk, indie folk, and alternative country, typically pairing romantic songwriting with left-wing political commitment; he co-founded the Red Wedge collective in 1985 to support the Labour Party, backed striking miners during the 1984-85 UK miners' strike, and founded the charity Jail Guitar Doors in 2007 to supply musical instruments to prisoners.

His most recent studio album, "The Million Things That Never Happened," was released in 2021, and in 2023 he marked four decades of performing with the compilation series "The Roaring Forty." Bragg continues to record and perform internationally, including recurring collaborations with Wilco revisiting the Mermaid Avenue material.
