MUNA are an American indie pop trio, Katie Gavin, Josette Maskin and Naomi McPherson, who met as students at the University of Southern California and began recording together in Los Angeles in 2013.
The band's sound moved from experimental electronic pop toward hook-driven synth-pop and electropop, earning early acclaim for the albums About U (2017) and Saves the World (2019), both released on RCA Records. After moving to the independent label Saddest Factory Records, their self-titled third album (2022) became their first to chart on the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200, and was rated by critics as the group's best-reviewed release to that point.
MUNA opened for Taylor Swift on several dates of her Eras Tour in 2023, introducing the band to a much wider audience. The trio has also been recognized for its LGBTQ advocacy, including a 2020 Queerty honor marking fifty people advancing equality and acceptance.
The band released its fourth studio album, Dancing on the Wall, in 2026 on Saddest Factory Records, continuing to work with producer Naomi McPherson and executive producer Phoebe Bridgers. Gavin, Maskin and McPherson remain the group's unchanged lineup and also host the podcast Gayotic.
