Pablo Martín Caminero brings his ambitious flamenco trilogy to Madrid's Centro de Cultura Contemporánea CondeDuque across three consecutive nights. The double bassist and composer, a graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, presents a personal exploration of flamenco's three pillars: toque (guitar playing), cante (singing), and baile (dance). Each evening focuses on one element, reimagined through a jazz-infused trio format.
Opening with "Al toque," Caminero reinterprets standards by flamenco guitar greats like Paco de Lucía and Sabicas in an unusual trio without guitar, featuring piano and percussion. "Al cante" shifts focus to voice, with Jerez-born cantaor David Carpio joining the ensemble. The trilogy concludes with "Al baile," where dancer María Moreno, a frequent collaborator, brings movement into the musical dialogue.
This project evolved naturally from Caminero's desire to create an album of versions after five albums of original compositions. The result is a coherent, expanding work that bridges jazz and flamenco through listening, experimentation, and deep knowledge of both traditions.
