Named after a concept that has long blurred the lines between fiction and physics, this Helsinki event takes its cue from the idea of devices that make time travel possible. Among its touchstones are Edward Page Mitchell's short story The Clock that Went Backward and H. G. Wells's novel The Time Machine, which gave the machine its name.
The science side is just as rich: Kurt Gödel showed that closed timelike curves fit within Albert Einstein's general relativity, and later theoretical proposals imagined rotating cylinders and wormhole-based time machines. Together, these strands give the Helsinki event a thoughtful, questioning atmosphere—part literary history, part theoretical physics—for anyone curious about how deep the idea runs.
