Fintar a Vida: Caniço, Futebol e o Estado Novo

This temporary exhibition at the Museu Nacional de Etnologia takes visitors on a journey to the suburbs of Lourenço Marques (now Maputo) during the 1950s–70s, exploring the intersections of culture, sport, and the legacies of colonialism. Through photography, mid-20th-century pop culture objects, press publications, and football-related items, the show reveals the cultural and social contrasts that defined the city under the Estado Novo regime.

The exhibition draws on the museum’s own collections to create a dialogue between historical artifacts and contemporary reflection.
