Mahmoud “Mood” Chouki brings his cigar box project to Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro, a set built around handmade cigar box instruments. The Moroccan guitarist and composer, who teaches at the Lycée Français de la Nouvelle Orléans and curates music for the New Orleans Museum of Art, leads a band featuring Brett Gardner on cigar box guitar, Rurik Nunan on cigar box violin, Martin Masakowski on z3 bass, and Gerald Watkins on trash kit drums. Expect a raw, inventive sound that draws on global traditions.
The intimate Music Room at Snug Harbor is the setting for this performance, with the venue’s dining room open for dinner before the show. Inside the Music Room, only charcuterie, cocktails, and soft drinks are served, so guests can enjoy a full meal next door before settling in for the music.
