Composed in the Swiss resort of Clarens, Tchaikovsky's only violin concerto was written with the help of his pupil Iosif Kotek. Despite initial resistance from its dedicatee Leopold Auer, the concerto premiered in 1881 and has since become a staple of the repertoire. This performance offers a chance to hear the concerto live in Tucson, with all its dramatic intensity and sweeping melodies.
