Ozric Tentacles are an English instrumental rock band formed in 1983 at the Stonehenge Free Festival in Somerset. Guitarist and keyboardist Ed Wynne is the band's only original member and remains its creative core; the current lineup also includes Silas Neptune on keyboards and synthesizers, Saskia Maxwell on flute, Corey Wallace on bass, and Pat Garvey on drums.
Their music fuses psychedelic rock, space rock, progressive rock, jazz fusion, electronic music, dub, and world influences into largely instrumental compositions. Early releases circulated as cassette-only recordings such as Erpsongs and Tantric Obstacles (both 1985), before the band launched its own label, Dovetail Records, with its first vinyl album, Pungent Effulgent, in 1989. Jurassic Shift (1993) reached the UK Top 20 and topped the UK Indie Chart.
Despite never signing to a major label, Ozric Tentacles have released more than 30 albums and sold over a million records worldwide, building their following through relentless live performance. The band became closely associated with the free festival scene and Glastonbury Festival, where their extended, improvisation-heavy sets helped shape the sound of the UK's underground psychedelic and space-rock revival.
