The Producers is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Mel Brooks and a book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan, adapted from Brooks's 1967 film of the same name. It follows a washed-up Broadway producer and his timid accountant who scheme to get rich by grossly overselling shares in a musical designed to flop, a plan that unravels when the show becomes an unexpected hit.

The musical opened on Broadway at the St. James Theatre on April 19, 2001, starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, and won a record twelve Tony Awards. A West End production opened at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in November 2004, with Lane reprising his role opposite Lee Evans, running until January 2007.
