That concentration is good news for planning. A trip built around Zürich puts you within about an hour by train of most of the major stages in German-speaking Switzerland. Geneva works differently: its live calendar leans far more to French-language theatre and comedy than to concerts, so treat the west as a separate circuit rather than a second concert city. Zürich is the default, but check Dübendorf
The Hallenstadion in Zürich-Oerlikon takes most of the international arena tours that stop in Switzerland. Below it, X-TRA and the Volkshaus cover the mid-size bracket and the club circuit runs through EXIL, Komplex and the two Dynamo rooms — a genuinely dense week-to-week programme rather than an occasional one.
The trap is THE HALL. It bills itself as a Zürich venue and is listed that way by promoters, but it stands in Dübendorf, a separate town on the S-Bahn. If you are chasing a specific act and a Zürich search comes up empty, look there before concluding the tour skipped Switzerland.
The west is a different circuit
French-speaking Switzerland runs its own programme and much of it does not tour east — but its depth is in theatre and comedy rather than concerts. Geneva’s busiest rooms by a distance are its French-language theatres. On the music side, the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices — a converted Rhône power station — handles concerts, opera and classical, Arena Genève takes the arena-scale nights, and the Théâtre de Beaulieu is Lausanne’s main room.
The same split shows up at the smaller festival sites: Melantropia at the Parc des Rives in Yverdon-les-Bains and the francophone comedy circuit in Geneva have no real equivalent in the German-speaking listings, and vice versa.
Practical: tickets, transport and timing
- Swiss concert tickets are mostly sold through Ticketcorner and Ticketmaster Switzerland, plus the venue’s own box office. Buy through one of those rather than a resale marketplace.
- Trains are the default way home. Check the last connection before you book a show in a town you are not sleeping in — Swiss timetables are excellent but they do end.
- The Half Fare Card halves the price of every ticket for a year and pays for itself quickly if you are doing several intercity trips; the Swiss Travel Pass covers unlimited travel for a set run of days.
- Some venues include local public transport in the concert ticket. It is common but not universal — the venue’s own event page is the only reliable source.
- Doors and stage times in Switzerland run closer to the advertised time than in southern Europe. A 20:00 support slot generally means 20:00.
