Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, founded in 1896 by Gaspar Vargas in Tecalitlán, Jalisco, is one of Mexico's most storied mariachi groups, having appeared in over 200 films and recorded extensively. Joining them is Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan, continuing the tradition under the direction of Carlos Martínez, a former leader of the Vargas group.
