Stanley Simmons

This event celebrates the life and work of Benjamin Stanley Simmons, a prolific American architect who designed over 280 buildings in Washington, D.C., including the National Metropolitan Bank Building and the Fairfax Hotel.

Attendees will explore his Beaux-Arts and City Beautiful-inspired designs, spanning row houses, apartment buildings, fraternal clubs, and commercial structures. His Hume School and Wyoming Apartments are among his works listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Simmons studied architecture at MIT and the University of Maryland, and collaborated closely with developer Lester A. Barr. His career reflects the architectural transformation of early 20th-century Washington.
