The Atlanta Braves are a Major League Baseball team with roots dating to 1871, when Ivers Whitney Adams founded the club in Boston as the Boston Red Stockings. It became a charter member of the National League in 1876, relocated to Milwaukee in 1953, and moved to Atlanta in 1966, having also played under names including the Beaneaters and Doves.
The franchise has won four World Series titles, in 1914, 1957, 1995 and 2021. Its Atlanta era included a run of 14 division titles in 15 seasons from 1991 to 2005, led by players such as Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine, John Smoltz and Chipper Jones, following the earlier era of Hank Aaron, who broke Babe Ruth's career home run record with the team in 1974.
