Bill Bailey, born Mark Robert Bailey on 13 January 1965 in Keynsham, Somerset, England, began his career in comedy in the mid-1980s, first as part of a double act called the Rubber Bishops with Toby Longworth from 1984. He developed a distinctive style that blends musical parody with traditional stand-up, going solo with the show Bill Bailey's Cosmic Jam in 1995.
He won the British Comedy Award for Best Live Stand-Up in 1999 and was voted the seventh greatest stand-up comedian on Channel 4's 100 Greatest Stand-Ups. On television he played Manny Bianco in the sitcom Black Books (2000-2004), was a team captain on Never Mind the Buzzcocks (2002-2008), and is a frequent guest on QI and Have I Got News for You. In 2020 he won the eighteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing at age 55, its oldest winner to date.
