Joe Bonamassa is an American blues rock guitarist and singer born May 8, 1977, in New Hartford, New York, and raised in nearby Utica. He began performing as a child, opening roughly twenty shows for B.B. King at age twelve, and released his debut solo album in 2000.
Since then Bonamassa has released seventeen solo studio albums and holds the record for the most number-one entries on the Billboard Blues Albums chart, with 29 as a solo artist and 30 including collaborative releases. Different Shades of Blue (2014) reached number eight on the Billboard 200 in addition to topping the blues chart; later releases include Royal Tea (2020) and Breakthrough (2025). He has received five Grammy Award nominations.
In 2011 Bonamassa founded the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation, followed by his own label, Keeping the Blues Alive Records, in 2020. His live performances have taken him to venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Beacon Theatre, often featuring different backing bands and set lists across individual shows, as with his 2013 London residency. He is also known for an extensive personal collection of vintage guitars and amplifiers.
