The group's sound is classified as stoner rock, alternative rock, hard rock and alternative metal, with Homme describing the band's approach as rock versions of electronic music, blending repetitive riffs with influences from krautrock, blues and dance music. Its lineup since 2013 has included guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen, bassist and keyboardist Michael Shuman, multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita and drummer Jon Theodore.
Queens of the Stone Age released their self-titled debut album in 1998, followed by Rated R (2000) and Songs for the Deaf (2002), which established the band internationally. Later albums include Lullabies to Paralyze (2005), ...Like Clockwork (2013), the band's first album to reach number one on the Billboard 200, Villains (2017) and In Times New Roman... (2023).
