In late May, Barcelona's Montjuïc Castle becomes the stage for a monumental dance piece by choreographer Aina Alegre. Commissioned by the Festival de Marseille, the work draws on Catalan popular festivals, processions, and Mediterranean collective energy to imagine a large-scale performance involving 100 amateur dancers. The piece explores how walls separate us from others, using movement, sound, light, and space in what Alegre conceives as an 'orchestration' of elements.

Alegre, co-director of the Centre chorégraphique national de Grenoble since 2023, brings her distinctive approach to collective bodies and memory. The performance features alternating interpreters and a sound design by Guillaume Olmeta, with music including Romain Mercier's 'Cathédrales' and Schubert's 'La jeune fille et la mort'. The production is part of the Be Part project, supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.

Set against the historic backdrop of Montjuïc Castle, this free event invites audiences to experience dance as a shared, festive ritual. With its roots in popular tradition and contemporary choreography, it offers a unique opportunity to see the castle's walls transformed by collective movement.
