Why Spain?
Direct flights to Spain leave from six Polish cities — Warsaw, Kraków, Katowice, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Poznań — mainly on Ryanair and Wizz Air, plus LOT and Iberia from Warsaw. Flight time runs roughly 3 to 3.5 hours depending on the departure and arrival airport.
Spain is more than a coastline: alongside the beaches of the Costa Brava, Costa del Sol and the Balearics (Palma de Mallorca), there are large cities with their own character — Barcelona's Gaudí architecture, Madrid's Prado-level museums, Seville's Andalusian old town. One destination country, several very different trip types.
Restaurant and bar prices are often comparable to Poland's, but seasonality matters a lot — in July and August, hotels on the coast and in Barcelona get noticeably pricier, and temperatures in Andalusia and the south regularly pass 35°C. May, June, September and October offer similar weather at lower prices and with fewer crowds.
Where to stay
- Barcelona — Gaudí's architecture, a city-centre beach and direct flights from five Polish airports make it the most common first pick.
- Madryt — The capital has no beach, but it has the Prado, the Reina Sofía, and the country's best rail connections onward.
- Malaga — The gateway to the Costa del Sol and Picasso's hometown, with the airport handling the most charter traffic from Poland.
- Sewilla — Andalusia's capital, with the Alcázar and cathedral — but summer temperatures regularly top 40°C, so spring or autumn works better.
- Saragossa — A less touristy city halfway between Madrid and Barcelona, with the Basílica del Pilar and noticeably lower prices.
A 3-star hotel outside peak season typically runs 60–100 EUR/night in major cities (more in July/August), a sit-down lunch 12–20 EUR, coffee 1.50–2.50 EUR. A single public transport ticket in Barcelona or Madrid costs around 2–2.50 EUR.
