Grand Rapids Ballet: Broken Wings

Grand Rapids Ballet: Broken Wings is a ballet performance at Peter Martin Wege Theatre in Grand Rapids on 23 October 2026, 19:30. Choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa created Broken Wings, which draws on the life and art of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. The ballet has been seen in London, Amsterdam, Chicago, Houston and San Francisco. It uses surrealist imagery from Kahlos art and a score by Peter Salem that incorporates elements of Mexican folk music. Characters from her life appear, including her husband and creative partner Diego Rivera. The program also includes a revival of James Sofrankos A Dreamer, inspired by the life and studies of theoretical astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, with a score by Philip Glass and Ludwig van Beethoven.
