Hell's Kitchen: Alicia Keys' Musical Comes to Syracuse

Hell's Kitchen is a jukebox musical built on the music and lyrics of Alicia Keys, with a book by Kristoffer Diaz. It tells a semi-autobiographical story about Keys' upbringing in Manhattan in the 1990s, and the touring production brings that story to Syracuse. Attendees will follow 17-year-old Ali as she navigates life at Manhattan Plaza, a building that houses musicians and working families.

Ali's world includes her protective mother Jersey, her friends Tiny and Jessica, and a bucket drummer named Knuck. When a chance encounter with pianist Miss Liza Jane opens the door to learning music, the story becomes a search for independence and a reckoning with family. Songs like 'The Gospel,' 'The River,' and 'Girl on Fire' are woven throughout the show.

The musical first ran at The Public Theater before its Broadway debut, and now the touring staging carries the same story and score to audiences in new cities.
