Atreyu is an American band formed in 1998 in Yorba Linda, California, initially performing under the name Retribution before adopting their current name from a character in Michael Ende's novel The Neverending Story. The founding lineup comprised guitarists Dan Jacobs and Travis Miguel, vocalist Alex Varkatzas, bassist Kyle Stanley, and drummer Brandon Saller. The band's music combines metalcore, post-hardcore, alternative metal, and hard rock, marked by alternating clean and harsh vocals.

O Atreyu

The group has released ten studio albums. The Curse (2004) sold about 450,000 copies and helped define the mid-2000s metalcore movement. A Death-Grip on Yesterday (2006) reached number 9 on the Billboard 200, while Lead Sails Paper Anchor (2007) debuted at number 8 with roughly 43,000 first-week sales, extending the band's reach beyond the hardcore scene into wider rock audiences.

Guitarists Jacobs and Miguel have remained constant throughout the band's history, while the vocal lineup changed over time: Saller took over clean vocal duties and bassist Marc "Porter" McKnight assumed harsh vocals, alongside drummer Kyle Rosa. The band paused activity between 2011 and 2014 before reuniting, returning to recording with Long Live (2015) and In Our Wake (2018), continuing to build on its dual-vocal identity.

Atreyu's current lineup includes Jacobs and Miguel on guitars, Saller on clean vocals and keyboards, McKnight on bass and harsh vocals, and Rosa on drums. The band released Baptize in 2021 and The Beautiful Dark of Life in 2023, its tenth studio album, and remains an active touring act on the rock and metal circuit.
