Matt Rife is an American stand-up comedian and actor born September 10, 1995, in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in North Lewisburg, Ohio. He began performing comedy at 15 after appearing in a high school talent show, and went on to join the cast of MTV's Wild 'n Out between 2015 and 2023 and to host the network's 2017 reboot of Total Request Live.
Rife built a large following through crowd-work clips shared on social media, which fueled his self-produced specials Only Fans (2021), Matthew Steven Rife (2023) and Walking Red Flag (2023) before he signed with Creative Artists Agency in December 2022. He went on to release the Netflix specials Natural Selection (2023) and Lucid (2024), followed by the Christmas special Unwrapped in 2025.
His comedy centers on observational and improvisational material built largely around audience interaction, spanning everyday life and American culture. He has also appeared in scripted television, including guest roles on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fresh Off the Boat, and the truTV series Bring the Funny.
In 2025, Forbes ranked Rife seventh on its list of Top Creators with estimated earnings of $50 million, reflecting a touring stand-up career built substantially through social media reach.
