Maybebop is a German a cappella pop quartet formed in Hannover. According to German Wikipedia, the group came together in December 1992 when Nils Ole Koch, Markus Jaursch, Bernd Clausen and Oliver Gies began performing as street musicians in the city centre. The name is a wordplay on bebop.
The group's repertoire consists mostly of German-language original songs, along with covers of rock hits and jazz-style arrangements of folk and Christmas songs. The current line-up is Oliver Gies (baritone, a founding member), Jan Malte Bürger (countertenor, since 1999), Lukas Teske (tenor, since 2002) and Christoph Hiller (bass). Sebastian Schröder, who sang bass from 2002, left the group in 2020.
Albums include Leichte Kost (1996), Weihnacht (2004), Superheld (2007), Weniger sind mehr (2013), Ziel:los! (2019), Kinderkram (2020) and Schöner Schein (2024). The group has won several CARA awards in the United States, including Best Holiday Album for Weihnacht in 2006, and received the LEOPOLD prize of the Verband deutscher Musikschulen in 2024 for Kinderkram. It took a break from summer 2024 to summer 2025 and resumed touring on 31 August 2025.
