Food and drink culture is never permanent, it continues to change all the time. It is influenced by individuals, communities, society, and the state. The exhibition takes you to places where food and drink culture is formed and modified. People all have their own personal perspective on food and drink culture, that is, on eating and drinking and everything that goes with them. As the saying goes, “there’s no accounting for taste”. Taste Matters is the Hotel and Restaurant Museum's permanent multi-sensory exhibition, located inside Helsinki's Cable Factory. Dedicated to food and drink culture, it explores what these traditions are, how and where they are shaped, and who influences them.
Visitors can move through a sensory experience that draws on different perspectives on food and drink, with a free digital museum guide available in 28 languages. The exhibition also integrates Spartak Khachanov's installation The Impersonal, which depicts daily life and food culture at a refugee reception center, adding a contemporary human dimension.
The museum is part of the Cable Museums, so a visit can easily be combined with the Theatre Museum and the Finnish Museum of Photography. Buying tickets in advance lets visitors walk straight to the lobby gate.
