Przeczytaj wszystkie szczegóły
Mackenzy Bergile's first solo work, *Autothérapie - Unbolting Colonial Statues from Our Consciousness*, is a choreographic introspection of a 21st-century body marked by the legacies of African diasporas. The performance delves into the history of colonization, segregation, and slavery, weaving together fragments from Haiti, Europe, and the United States.
Drawing on the Haitian spiralist movement, the choreography rejects linear narrative in favor of a spiraling progression of gestures, where historical figures and episodes emerge as ghosts haunting the present. Bergile's movement vocabulary fuses the Haitian Vodou dance Yanvalou with ballet and jazz, creating a porous geography of the body.
Presented as part of the Faits d'hiver festival at Théâtre de la Bastille, the piece transforms memory into a space of friction, allowing long-suppressed presences to surface through a hybrid, ever-recomposing identity.
