Tania El Khoury's "Choreography of State" is a multimedia installation-performance that deconstructs the gestures of police forces and border patrols to reveal the dramaturgy of state-perpetrated violence.
The work exposes the militarization of police training shaped by racialized surveillance, spatial exclusion, and the neutralization of resistance.
Female choreographers from diverse practices worldwide are invited to create choreographic notations as evidence of these power structures. Drawing on protest movements, the installation features videos of choreographic scores of resistance meant to be activated by performers and embodied by the audience, celebrating self-defense.
El Khoury approaches choreography as a form of analysis, revealing that what is perceived as isolated cases of state violence is actually conceptualized and repeated according to a calculated dramaturgy. The project adapts across different cities and countries in collaboration with dancers, building a collective memory of state violence and resistance through movement language.
