The Canal Parade is the iconic boat parade through Amsterdam's canals and the centrepiece of WorldPride 2026, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators to the waterfront. Confirm details at pride.amsterdam.

The Canal Parade is Amsterdam's signature Pride event and the centrepiece of WorldPride 2026, taking place on Saturday 1 August from around 12:00 to 18:00. Elaborately decorated boats — entered by community organisations, businesses, embassies and advocacy groups — cruise a route through the city's historic canal ring: Oosterdok, Nieuwe Herengracht, the Amstel, Prinsengracht and Westerdok, watched by crowds lining the bridges and quaysides the entire way.

As part of WorldPride, the 2026 parade is expected to be larger and more internationally watched than in a typical year, with organisations selected for starting slots after a competitive registration process (registration for participating boats closed in February 2026). Grants of up to €5,000 were made available to help smaller community groups cover decoration costs, reflecting the event's inclusive, grassroots character even at global scale.

Why visitors go: it's one of the most photogenic, joyful large-scale public events in Europe — a full afternoon of music, colour and celebration along Amsterdam's most scenic waterways, free to watch from public space. Arrive early for a good spot, as the canal-side areas fill up fast, especially for a WorldPride year.

Practical notes for foreign travellers: the parade route and surrounding streets become car-free, with parking restrictions in effect for the full day. Anyone wanting to watch from a private boat needs a Pride Vignette (available from 1 July via botenparade.nl) to moor along the route. Licensed bars and food trucks operate along the banks, and accessible viewing areas with wheelchair facilities are provided at points along the route. Note that amplified sound from spectator boats and the shore has been banned since 2019, and public urination is fined at €140 under Amsterdam's public-order rules — plan for toilet access in advance, as facilities are mapped but can have queues.
