Traje para Todos: Tactile Costume Exhibition at Museu Nacional

Ana Margarida Valente's "Traje para Todos" (Costume for Everyone) is a doctoral project in Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon, designed to make museum experiences more inclusive through tactile content. The exhibition at the Museu Nacional dos Coches features reproductions and samples of historical costumes from the late 18th to late 19th centuries, allowing visitors to touch and explore forms, textures, and construction techniques normally off-limits due to conservation needs.

While particularly beneficial for visually impaired visitors, the project enriches everyone's understanding of textile heritage by recognizing touch as a powerful learning tool. The museum, housed in a historic building, provides a fitting backdrop for this multisensory journey through fashion history.

All visitors are invited to handle the reproductions and trace the evolution of costume features over a century. The exhibition runs from July 14 to August 16, 2026, offering a unique opportunity to engage with cultural heritage in a hands-on way.
