Espaços Outros: Photography from the Américo Marques Collection

This exhibition at MACAM – Museu de Arte Contemporânea Armando Martins presents a selection of works from one of Portugal's most significant private photography collections, assembled over decades by collector Américo Marques. Curated by Adelaide Ginga, the show brings together international photography luminaries such as Andreas Gursky, Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, Helmut Newton, Candida Höfer, Thomas Ruff, Wolfgang Tillmans, and Helena Almeida, among many others.

Covering works from the late 1950s to the present day, the exhibition offers a broad perspective on the aesthetic, conceptual, and thematic diversity of contemporary photography. Rather than a chronological survey, "Espaços Outros" proposes a dialogue between authors, languages, and sensibilities, exploring photography as a space for constructing meaning and critical reflection on the world.

Part of MACAM's special programming dedicated to collecting and private collections, this is a rare opportunity to experience the vision of a collector whose passion for photography, begun in the 1990s, has created a reference collection in the Portuguese art scene.
