American Football with Afternoon Bike Ride

American Football are the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois trio whose sole 1999 studio album became one of the foundational records of Midwest emo, prized for its intricate guitar interplay, horn textures and unhurried, wistful songwriting. Formed by Mike Kinsella, Steve Holmes and Steve Lamos, the band broke up shortly after that debut but became a cult phenomenon over the following decade as its influence rippled through the genre. They reunited in 2014, added Kinsella's cousin Nate Kinsella, and have since released three more full-length albums extending the same emotionally direct, technically intricate sound to new audiences. Their Indianapolis date on August 14, 2026 comes as part of a tour on which the band has partnered with PLUS1, directing $1 from every ticket toward organizations supporting immigrants, deportees, migrants and refugees. For longtime fans, it's a chance to hear a band widely credited as godfathers of Midwest emo perform songs that shaped the genre decades before "emo revival" became a scene unto itself, at Old National Centre's all-ages Deluxe room.
