Channel One Sound System at Chickie Wah Wah

Channel One Sound System carries a lineage that stretches back to the Windrush generation and the birth of UK sound system culture. Brothers Mikey Dread and Jah T took over the running of their father’s Admiral Bailey Sound before renaming it Channel One, in homage to a storied recording studio in Jamaica. Their stated mission has always been to break down barriers through reggae music.

For this New Orleans stop, expect a roots rock reggae session delivered in the tradition of the Jamaican sound system—with DJs, selectors and MCs building a participatory, bass-heavy evening around the records they play. It’s a chance to hear a piece of living reggae history.
